2013 FAU Recruiting
Posted: 2/3/2013 4:50:00 AM

I found it odd they sent home both evans and bryant. Perhaps they want to rattle evans a little bit before they bring him back on his own. Bryant im not surprised they sent home.

I'm with you Voss. Evans is a very talented DE with a lot of potential. He simply got caught up in Bryants mess. I don't know what it is about Atlantic, but we haven't had a whole lot of success with them. I think the new coach and maybe the AD Logan should  try and straighten the relationship up.  Some kid is eventually going to miss out  on a chance to play D-1 ball.

I believe FAU was right to bring Bryant to campus. He said he was genuinely interested in FAU. You have to take him at his word. Kids make unusual decisions on Signing Day. Once FAU decided they didn't want Bryant anymore, they sent him home. Good for the FAU coaches. Love that they respect their own program that much.

As for Evans, I'm not really sure they wanted him without Bryant. Judging by the players who visited before him, FAU has higher rated players on their board. The situation is tough for Evans and I feel a little bad for him because every time I've talked with him he's seemed like a polite, good-natured kid.

But in life you are frequently judged by who you associate with. Truth be told, I'm not sure he would have even been on the visit if not for Bryant.

Chuck, doesn't it seem like we can't buy a highly rated PB County recruit.. I know we've had a few fall through due to grades, but they all seem to run up north. Bowling Green, Marshall, MTSU, or any number of schools. We get criticized for it but I don't feel it's from a lack of trying. Lablanc came here last year and kicked butt as a freshman. The surounding counties are well represented but PBC lags behind. When you look at the current roster, it's got a few  PBC kids but we still catch heck for not having more. I need to stop reading newspapers.

Mac - I don't think you can really look at the current roster and assess what FAU does right or wrong in recruiting. There was very little desire to play at FAU before the stadium was built. It's a whole new ballgame now.

Also, most of my friends were looking to go away to college. Had FAU offered me a scholarship (I went to Spanish River in Boca) I don't think I would have taken it.

That being said, I think the recruits didn't match what FAU was looking for this year. I expect next year to be completely different.

Also, a lot is being made about FAU not getting Palm Beach County kids. Don't forget that Ft Lauderdale is actually closer to campus than northern Palm Beach County. FAU is recruiting close to home.

And FAU did get three players from PBC last year.

Smart move by the young WR. A once weak position, WR is now laoded with talent. A year to mature, develope and to give time to thin out the talent , makes this a wise move on his part.

There are a bunch of posts in the Twittershpere announcing new commitments to FAU. Those players are preferred walk-ons and won't be sign NLIs. That is why their names are not being added to The List.

That doesn't mean they can't be effective players for the Owls, though. WR Jenson Stoshak was a preferred walk on in 2012 and started two games as a freshman. He was awarded a scholarship after the season.

Among the names seen on Twitter are Naples-FirstBaptist Academy QB Corey Todd and Delray Beach-American Heritage K Greg Joseph.

BTW - I'm hearing that QB Corey Todd will be an H-back or tight end at FAU.

Checked on the status of West Virginia WR Ivan McCartney.

Apparently he talked to FAU weeks ago, but hasn't followed up.

Here's the story

Apparently Bryant signed with FSU and Evans signed with Middle Tennessee.

Bryant is a schmuck but I do feel bad for Evans. Its not like he had better schools waiting for him. Apparently his friendship with Bryant only goes so far.

Did Keith Bryant end up having an FAU hat on his table??? If so did he do anything with it disrespectful or anything?

I don't know this Bryant kid, but I do know he will be just one of many 4 and 5 star players at FSU and he will not get special treatment there.  All I ask is that he and the rest of the FSU team beat the Gators and Canes every year.

No, Bryant did not have an FAU hat on his table. He had Kentucky instead. And I'm told that it's no sure thing that Bryant will even end up at FSU. He has academic work left to accomplish.
