Gaskins would be a huge get!

Looks like a big-time player.

FAU basketball is hoping it has found a point guard for next year in Cass Tech's D'Andre Johnson.

FAU might get a commitment from a Texas point guard this weekend. Read about Marquan Botley and see his highlight videos here:

Talked with Texas PG Marquan Botley today. He loved his visit to FAU and all signs point to him officially announcing his commitment to FAU in the coming days.

I know of at least one football recuit who is inquiring with the ncaa about decommitting without a penalty due to the intolerance and mocking of Christians at FAU.

If you are looking for a reason to leave, then any excuse is a good excuse.  It's an isolated incident and the instructor has been chastened - probably with more to come.  And the university has been chastened - with definitely more to come.  This is not a reason to walk away.

As I read it now, it was an exercise that the students did not have to participate in and those complaining about it seem to miss the point of the exercise. I am sorry it has received such a negative slant now.

FAU has decided to part ways with guard Chris Jenkins before he even enrolled.

Concerned about his academic qualifications, FAU released Jenkins from the NLI he signed in the fall.

That leaves the Owls with at least one scholarship remaining to be filled for the class of 2013.

According to The Recruit Scoop, Jenkins, who is from New Jersey, has now committed to Hofstra.

Wow, academic issues at FAU but can qualify to Hofstra???

Committing to Hofstra and getting into Hofstra are two different things. Maybe the Hofstra coach is a little more willing to gamble.

I was excited about Jenkins and pretty bummed about him not coming?

But that does free up a spot for a player. Maybe a JUCO?

Yes, FAU is looking to bring in one more player. It could be a junior college player, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was a one of those fifth-year transfer guys who already has his undergraduate degree and is looking to transfer to a school that offers a graduate degree that his current school doesn't. If that's the case he doesn't have to sit out a year.

The Owls are looking for someone who can help right away and a JUCO guy does fit that requirement, but they haven't had much luck with JUCOs in the past.

And keep in mind that all those guys who have left FAU over the past couple seasons have left FAU in a tough spot APR wise. Is it worth the risk to bring in another player who might not graduate? Poor academics are usually the reason basketball playes end up in junior college.

Prestonwood Christian (Tex.)guard Marquan Botley has signed and faxed his NLI to FAU. Cass Tech (Mich.) guard DeAndre Johnson says he expects to do the same shortly.

Cass Tech (Mich.) guard DeAndre Johnson says he signed his NLI to play at FAU. He joins Prestonwood Christian (Tex.) guard Marquan Botley in the 2013 spring signing period.
