It's Shula Bowl week, maybe for the final time...
Let's get the week started off right by talking Panthers-Owls here...
Florida International (2-8, 1-5 Sun Belt) at Florida Atlantic (3-7, 2-4 Sun Belt)
And the week is not off to a great start for Owl Nation. FAU cornerback Keith Reaser was snubbed for Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week. Reaser grabbed Western Kentucky's lateral out of the air and returned it 9-yards for the game-sealing touchdown with 5 seconds remaining in the game to give FAU a 37-28 victory over the Hilltoppers Saturday. In the third quarter, Reaser also had a key interception. Reaser finished with five tackles, including one behind the line of scrimmage. But the SBC Defensive POW is ULL defensive lineman Emeka Onyeneku. He had nine tackles and 2.5 QB sacks in the Ragin' Cajuns 27-20 loss to Florida. FAU hasn't had a Sun Belt Player of Week since the first week of the 2010 season.
That's because the SunBelt sucks and has ALWAYS been against FAU! So I guess from this Kelly also did not get special teams player of the week with that AMAZING punting performance? Awful field position just killed WKU and let our D play their run and short passes very aggresively!
Don't look now, but FAU is now a 1-point favorite over FIU.
Caught the commercial for the game last nite on ESPNU during Ball State-Ohio...
Cab't wait for the game!
Don't forget about the 24 hour tailgate for the game starts today!
There is no Shula Bowl for the next few years, but I think it will be renewed in a few years as soon as FIU realizes how much it helps both programs/
If the series doesn't continue. I could care less.
We owned the rivalry and FIU never brings any fans to the game - home or away.
We really need to win the Trophy and keep it forever.
End of First Quarter: FIU 7, FAU 0
Anyone notice anything strange about this photo?
Halftime: FIU 14, FAU 10 ...Owls get a TD on a 17-yard pass from Wilbert to McKinney and Mitch Anderson with a 37-yard FG
End 3rd: FIU 27, FAU 17 ...We're running behind thanks to lightning delay of around 30 mins. ...FIU's Richard Leonard had a 100-yard kickoff return. That's the longest play of any kind against the Owls.
FINAL: FIU 34, FAU 24...Owls fall to Panthers for second consecutive season in Shula Bowl.
FAU was pretty banged up coming in from a short week. Dukes, Dorvelious, Wilbert all playing with injuries. We couldnt run the ball at all.
Interesting strategic move by WKU today. The Hilltoppers didn't pitch Justin Hageman, saving him for Game 1 of the tournament. Hageman shut down FAU... More| Reply
