Here are the Sun Belt Bowl Bids...

Arkansas State (9-3) Bowl vs. Kent State on Jan. 6
Louisiana-Monroe (8-4)  Independence Bowl vs. Ohio Dec. 28
Louisiana-Lafayette (8-4) New Orleans Bowl vs. East Carolina Dec. 22

Western Ky. (7-5) Little Caesars Bowl vs. Central Michigan, Dec. 26

Bowl eligible, but not slected: Middle Tennessee (8-4)

WKU announces it is going to Little Caesar's Bowl.

That means MTSU got the snub.

So, to recap...

  1. SBC Champion Arkansas State is pissed it is going to in Mobile instead of Liberty Bowl in Memphis.
  2. Middle Tennessee tied for 2nd but is left out of bowl picture even though 4th place Western Kentucky is going bowling.

Do they have a case for being angry?

Sucks for MTSU, 8-4 and no bowl but Ga. Tech (whom they KILLED AT TECH) goes at 6-7? Guess they shoulda showed up yesterday - that was a BAD game to finish on in front of bowl reps!

Losing that game 45-0 does not improve marketability, Maybe C-USA should have left MTSU in the sun belt and taken Western Kentucky instead.

It's official ... Arkansas State to face Kent State in Bowl.

Congratulations to the Red Wolves on winning the Sun Belt Championship and earning a second trip to Mobile, Ala.

So if Kent St. wins in OT they go to a BCS bowl (Orange) but loses and goes to GoDaddy? WHAT A DROP OFF, maybe the only one worse than UGA! But a 6-6 Central Mich goes while MTSU at 8-4 sits. Great to be OUT OF THE BELT! Conference admins outplayed by the MAC, no surprise there.

Middle had a worse drop-off. If the Blue Raiders win, I bet Arky State goes somewhere.

Definitely some revenge on MTSU moving to C-USA. And it's the second time they've won 8 games and been stiffed.

Just got this from the Sun Belt Conference. It is very interesting...

Statement from Sun Belt Conference Commissioner Karl Benson

“While I am happy to have a record number of Sun Belt teams in bowl games this season, I would be even happier if Middle Tennessee would have received a bid. Additionally, our persistent efforts working for Arkansas State to appear in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl were not rewarded.  I am disappointed with both of these outcomes and I understand why our fans feel so strongly about the results.  Like our fans, coaches and student-athletes, I wanted what was best for Arkansas State and Middle Tennessee.

“I am also disappointed to hear that there is public opinion that I worked against schools in our conference – that could not be further from the truth.  In fact, a great deal of work was done with our member institutions in an attempt to get the best possible outcome for bowl games.

“I also understand that there is frustration that Middle Tennessee was not selected since they finished in a tie for second place in the league standings, but it is important to note that between our two bowl agreements only the league champion must be accommodated.  Arkansas State as league champion will be playing in the Bowl and the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, which by contract had first selection regardless of standings, chose Louisiana-Lafayette.  The AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl and Little Caesars Pizza Bowl are not bowls that the Sun Belt Conference is contracted with, thus they were free to take whichever school they wanted.  The same is true with the AutoZone Liberty Bowl and their desire to take Iowa State.  Those bowl games chose the teams that they wanted the most.

“There has also been a lot of talk about Middle Tennessee being left out of a bowl game because they have announced that they will be leaving the Sun Belt Conference.  At no point in time was that ever part of any conversation between Sun Belt officials and a representative of a bowl game.  It truly was a nonfactor in how the selections were made.  Again to reiterate, the bowl games selected the teams that they most wanted.”

To Mr. Benson, SOMEHOW the "group of five" MAC got ALL seven (7) of their bowl eligible teams into games, even 6-6 CMU. So glad to be out of the BELT!

Wow they want to make it $10M to exit the SunBelt! Who would ever want to join knowing as an entry level program you would be basically stuck for life. Benson is an a..hole. Gonna kill the Belt too!

The Sun Belt is minor league all the way around. From the way it allows its football champion to twist in the wind to holding its tournament in Hot Springs...GOOD RIDDENCE!
