Talk about Owls-Red Wolves here...
FAU (10-11, 5-5 Sun Belt)
at Arkansas St. (11-8, 5-5 Sun Belt)
About the Owls: FAU won the first meeting between these teams 72-65 on Dec. 1 in Boca Raton … Greg Gantt has fallen to No. 5 in the nation in scoring (22.0 PPG) after a 13 point outing against UALR, which snapped his steak of 11 consecutive 20+ point games … Forward Chris Bryant is sidelined for about a month with a fractured right ankle … FAU can match last season’s win total (11) with a victory over the Red Wolves.
About the Red Wolves: ASU has lost 3 out of its last 4 contests against the Owls with their lone win coming last season 70-55 in the opening round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament on March 3, 2012 … ASU has lost 3 out of its last 4 games, including a disappointing overtime loss to Troy on Thursday … Ed Townsel is leading the Red Wolves with 15.4 PPG
Our league has one clear dominate team, MTSU. And the rest of the league, any given night, any team in the Sunbelt can be beat. Listening to FAU radio is painful and it almost appears as if Levika makes attempts to make our players appear like clowns....I listened to the game on the radio and watched on ESPN and the announcers that ACTUALLY KNOW BASKETBALL clearly outlined what our issues were, while Levika makes jokes. Lets get behind our Owls or at least sound as if you know the game. We have a long way to go, but this team shows clear signs of being not only good, but able to compete in the Conference USA. Reality is, we have a 7fter that is clearly a work in progress and zero guard play from the point. Once all cylinders start to click, the leadership will start to show. Be clear, this cannot be blamed on the staff, players play and coaches put them in positions to play....Gantt's Chris Webber meltdown, Bertoni's thrown ball, 2 assists....defensive meltdowns....players still have to play. We have 10 games left to salvage the season...lets get behind our Owls and finish with a Sunbelt Tourny Championship!!!
I doubt that anyone knows more about this FAU basketball than Lavicka. And to describe last night's game as anything but a train wreck into a plane crash would be disingenuous. That had to be one of the worst basketball games I've ever seen - and there is enough blame to go around.
Yes, FAU is capable of beating any Sun Belt team on any night, but to expect them to put together a run of consecutive victories? What have you seen this year that would lead you to believe that is possible?
I wouldn't be surprised if this team played sub-.500 ball the rest of the way. Last night was embarrassing. I hope I'm wrong just so I don't have to sit through bad basketball.
And what a Train wreck into and Airplane, poor shooting, bad ball handling, not going to the Basket lead to the poor showing at ARK ST. Give it up to ARK ST they shot 80 percent from the foul line, full and half court pressure gave FAU problems, ARK ST stop one of the nations top scorer, and what is up with Moody. The Owls did their best to show case their noshow game on CSS-TV.
