Freshman forward Devonte Thornton has left the Owls to return home because of a family issue and may not return to Boca Raton this season, a source familiar with the situation has told OwlAccess.com.
Thornton, who is averaging 1.5 points per game and less than one rebound per game, has seen action in six games this season - the most recent one coming on Dec. 27 at Troy. Thornton had what appeared to be a breakout game, scoring seven points and grabbing three rebounds against Warner on Dec. 9, but played in only three games since.
He did play a career-high 19 minutes in the loss to Indiana.
FAU coach Mike Jarvis did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
