Freshman forward Devonte Thornton has left the Owls to return home because of a family issue and may not return to Boca Raton this season, a source familiar with the situation has told

Thornton, who is averaging 1.5 points per game and less than one rebound per game, has seen action in six games this season - the most recent one coming on Dec. 27 at Troy.  Thornton had what appeared to be a breakout game, scoring seven points and grabbing three rebounds against Warner on Dec. 9, but played in only three games since.

He did play a career-high 19 minutes in the loss to Indiana.

FAU coach Mike Jarvis did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
