Florida Atlantic fans are well aware of the improved play of the basketball team this season.
Those in charge of programming at ESPN must be paying attention as well.
A few weeks ago, ESPN selected Saturday’s FAU vs. Arkansas Little Rock game to air on ESPN2 over other Sun Belt games played that day.
And why not? The Owls had defeated Mississippi State and USF and were one of the hottest teams in the league when it was announced late last month that the game would be televised.
“It’s a big deal, especially when you’re not on,” said FAU coach Mike Jarvis. “It makes me appreciate it because I never really appreciated it before when I was at GW and St. John’s and we were on all the time.”
Since the announcement, FAU has played even better and will bring in a six-game winning streak and an undefeated record in the Sun Belt into Saturday’s game.
“I’d like to hope that because of some early success against some big teams, and because we were are a fun team to watch and we are winning, we were chosen,” Jarvis said.
The game will mark the first time FAU has played a home game televised on an ESPN network.
