The last time major college sports had significant conference re-alignment, the trickle down effect worked out well for Florida Atlantic.
Owl officials are hoping possible coming shifts in conferences will have another positive outcome for the school’s football program and the rest of its sports, much the same way the moves by sevaral large schools did earlier in the decade.
When those movements produced the Sun Belt Conference's desire to expand, it added FAU and Florida International in 2006, allowing both schools to attain Division I-A status.
With another round of conference re-alignment likely in the very near future, who is going where was a topic of discussion at last week’s meetings of Football Bowl Subdivision football coaches and athletic directors - including FAU coach Howard Schnellenberger and Athletic Director Craig Angelos - in Scottsdale, Ariz.
