BOCA RATON – FAU guard Lyrell Barfield missed a potential game-winning 3-pointer from the right corner as the Owls fell to Florida International 77-75 on Saturday at FAU Arena.
“She had a good look,” said FAU coach Chancellor Dugan. “It was a little contested but it was a good look…We have to regroup and be tougher.”
After the Golden Panthers jumped out to a 11-1 lead, The Owls fell behind by as many as 17 points in the second half before rallying to tie the game at 67 with :12 remaining in the game on two free throws by Teri Stamps.
“I thought we did a good job of getting back into the game,” Dugan said.
In overtime FAU (10-11, 6-5) had several shots at the basket in the last minute, but couldn’t get one to fall in the last 1:41 of the game.
The Owls were 2-of-10 from the field and 0-for-5 on 3-point attempts in overtime.
Barfield’s miss was the fifth shot the Owls missed on their final possession.
“If any one of those shots goes in, but we missed too many shots,” Dugan said. “We missed layups and we missed 3-pointers. You can’t do that.”
