DENTON, Texas – Florida Atlantic has been the hot team in the Sun Belt Conference lately.

You wouldn’t have known it by the way they played Thursday.

Riding a five-game winning streak, the Owls couldn’t find a way to stop North Texas as the Mean Green defeated FAU 86-69 at the Super Pit.

“When you come into somebody else’s house you better take care of the basketball, run your offense and you have to play some defense,” FAU coach Mike Jarvis said on his post-game radio show on ESPN 760.  “We didn’t do any of that.”

North Texas shot 64 percent from the floor and led by as many as 20 points.

The Owls trailed 45-27 at halftime but an early second half 9-0 spurt helped them pull to within 51-44 with 13:50 remaining. However, the Mean Green went on a 9-0 run of their own to extend their lead to 60-44.

The loss drops FAU into a three-way tie at the top of the Sun Belt’s East Division after Middle Tennessee lost to Troy.
