BOCA RATON – Florida Atlantic came into Sunday’s game against Florida International after winning its last two, the first time all season the Owls have won consecutive games.
But FAU couldn’t extend the winning streak to three games after losing to FIU 60-53 at FAU Arena on Sunday.
FIU raced out to a 10-3 lead and had a 33-23 advantage at halftime
However, FAU started out hot in the second half and used a 18-4 run capped by jumper by Vontrice Dennis to take its first lead of the game at 38-37.
But after the Owls 6-16, 3-8 Sun Belt Conference) finally got in front, they didn’t stay there for long as FIU (11-14, 6-5) scored the next 10 points to re-take control of the game – this time for good.
“I just thought we played harder ,” Dugan said. “I thought we had more energy and a lot more intensity, but I don’t know where that was in the first half. That was what I was disappointed in.”
FAU was led by Lyrell Barfield who had 10 points. The Golden Panthers were led by Jerica Coley’s 18 points.
