Three Florida Atlantic football players and a student trainer were injured and one remains hospitalized following a car accident on I-95 in Boca Raton on Saturday.
The accident occurred while traveling to their football banquet.
Safety Austin Jensen remains hospitalized and is "awake, alert and able to answer questions," FAU spokeswoman Katrina McCormack said. Offensive lineman Max Karrick and punter Mickey Groody were taken to the hospital but were released.
A fourth person, a student trainer Kevin Thorton, was also riding in the car. He, too, was taken to the hospital then released.
Jensen, who will be a junior, made 11 tackles including one for a loss in 2009.
FAU’s football banquet began at noon at the Embassy Suites off Yamato Rd. in Boca Raton.
Groody, who will be a redshirt junior, was to have been presented with the Special Teams MVP Award at the event.
Karrick will be a redshirt junior who is expected to start on the offensive line in 2010.
