BOCA RATON – Florida Atlantic will continue a recent stretch of playing some of the top players in the Sun Belt Conference on Thursday when it faces South Alabama at The Burrow.
In their last four games, the Owls have gone against three of the four players (Denver's Chris Udofia, North Texas' Tony Mitchell and MTSU's LeRon Dendy) nominated for the Sun Belt Conference's Player of the Year.
When FAU plays host to South Alabama on Thursday, it will face the fourth player- forward Augustine Rubit.
Rubit averages 14.3 points and 9.0 rebounds per game and had 11 points and nine rebounds in the Owls' 65-56 loss to the Jaguars this season.
Rubit wasn't the difference in the game, Jarvis said.
“He didn't beat us, we beat ourselves,” Jarvis said. “We didn't make shots, they did and that was the difference.”
And making shots, which the Owls struggled to do last week in losses against Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee will be important vs. the Jaguars
“We have to make shots and we need (Greg Gantt, Shavar Richardson, Alex Tucker and Ray Taylor) to make some jump shots when they are open,” Jarvis said.
FAU and South Alabama are tied for fifth in the Sun Belt Conference, but for the moment the Jags' hold the tiebreaker because of their victory in the earlier meeting.
