Florida Atlantic’s baseball program hadn’t made an NCAA Regional appearance since 2005, but the Owls found their way back to the post-season in May by earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Making it to the Gainesville Regional, the Owls showed they belonged there. After losing to Oregon State in the opening game, FAU eliminated Bethune-Cookman and then got revenge on the Beavers. FAU’s season came to an end with a 15-0 loss to Florida, which eventually would advance to the College World Series.

Why it’s important
Once a perrenial Regional participant, the Owls had gone four years without making tk the NCAAs. But a return to the Regionals could foreshadow a return FAU to the days where a Regional berth is a realistic goal year after year.
