When FAU basketball coach Mike Jarvis looks at this year’s NCAA tournament bracket, two words jump out at him: Big East.
The former St. John’s coach believes Georgetown, Syracuse, West Virginia and Villanova could make up an all-Big East Final four, with the Hoyas having their one shining moment.
“They are probably the most dangerous team out of all the Big East teams because they can win so many different ways,” Jarvis said.
Georgetown, a No. 3 seed, will have to better No. 1-seed Kansas and No. 2-seed Ohio St., among others, to emerge from the Midwest.
Jarvis also believes No. 2 seed Villanova has the easiest path to Indianapolis.
“I tell you what, if I am Villanova right now I’m feeling pretty good,” Jarvis said. “I can go to the Final Four if I beat Duke - and Duke is very beatable. People talk about Duke having the best bracket. I think Villanova has the best track.”
Jarvis added Kansas and Kentucky as the only non-Big East teams he believes could cut down the nets on April 5.
“You’ve got to have three NBA players if you are going to win a national championship,” he said.
Jarvis believes Cornell could be this year’s Cinderella, but was disappointed when he saw a first-round match-up against Temple.
“I think that both of those teams are the types of teams that could pull upsets in the tournament,” Jarvis said.
He also thinks Tennessee needs to be wary of San Diego St.
Jarvis, The Voice of the Owls, Ken LaVicka, and ESPN 760 radio and television personalities Evan Cohen and Jason Pugh joined FAUOwlAccess.com’s Marcus Nelson and Chuck King to offer their tournament picks.
