BOCA RATON – Finding out he wouldn’t be starting this weekend vs. Louisiana-Lafayette didn’t have a negative effect on pitcher Taylor Everist.
In fact it may have served as motivation for Everist, who started Tuesday’s game with Cornell and had his best outing as an Owl in a 10-5 victory.
Everist didn’t allow a hit in his five-innings vs. the Big Red on Tuesday.
“My mindset is that it’s my job to pitch whenever they give me the ball,” said Everist, who improved to 2-4. “That’s what I’m fighting to get back- that starting job and I think I proved a pretty good point tonight.…I’ve been working on mechanics all week and I felt pretty good.”
FAU coach John McCormack had no doubts Everist would respond positively.
“He’s a mature guy,” McCormack said. “In junior college he started, he relieved and closed. He’s kind of done everything. …We’ll see how he does out of the bullpen this weekend, but it doesn’t matter when you warm up, you still have to get people out.”
FAU had 12 hits, including two singles, a double, a triple and a home run by Mee, who couldn’t remember hitting for the cycle at any level of organized baseball.
"After the home run I knew it was going to be a good night," Mee said.
It was the third consecutive game the Owls have scored at least 10 runs.
“We are pretty dialed in right now,” said Mee, who hit his fourth home run of the season in the fourth inning.

Stat download: With his 5-for-5 perfomance, Andy Mee raised his average from .380 to a team-leading .417.
