BOCA RATON – After missing a week of practice early in training camp, Florida Atlantic fullback Xavier Stinson was excited to take that first hit last week when he came back from an ankle injury that sidelined him.

By his own admission, he was a little rusty as he missed the defender. But on the next play he redeemed himself with a solid block.
“That first hit was rough,” Stinson said. “There was player coming off the edge and I missed it completely, but after that I got it after the system and it was like I never left.”
The time away from the field during training camp may have slowed Stinson, but as he regains his timing he is becoming more of a factor on the field.
Stinson has been splitting time with senior David Muniz at fullback in recent days, but despite his setback earlier in training camp could find himself in the starting lineup when the Owls face UAB in the season opener at 8 p.m. at Legion Field in Birmingham, Ala.
“At first it was a rough, but you can’t hold a good player down,” Stinson said.
Wet Wednesday: FAU was only on the field for about 30 minutes on Wednesday before lightning in the area forced the team off the practice field.
The team went to meetings and then to dinner and was to hold a night practice under the lights at the FAU Track and Field Complex. However, with a steady rain continuing throughout the afternoon, the resumption of the practice was cancelled.

The team will return to the practice field at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Welcome walk-ons: FAU invited the following players to walk-on for the fall practices:
DE Gemar Brewton, DT Kyle Barnett, DT DeVonte King, S Burak Kiranlar, FB Patrick Leonard, OL Anthony Morris, LB Joshua Olmann, DE Antonio Patterson, LB Victor Quintero, OL Robby Tucker and WR Jeff Williams.
