1. UAB is coming off a 5-7 season and lost to UCF 34-27 in the regular-season finale in a game that would have made the Blazers bowl eligible
2. The Blazers defeated the Owls 56-29 on Nov. 7 last season.
3. UAB quarterback Joe Webb threw for 292 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 120 yards and two touchdowns in that game.
4. Webb was drafted by the Vikings in the 6th round, 23 picks after Rusty Smith was selected by the Titans.
5. UAB sophomore David Isabelle won a five-way battle for the quarterback spot in pre-season training camp.
6. The 622 yards in total offense gained by the Blazers was the most allowed in school history. The record stood for two weeks until Troy rolled up 651 yards.
7. In 2008, the Owls won the first game of the series 49-34 at Lockhart Stadium. The Blazers are tentatively scheduled to conclude the series next season.
8. Blazers offensive coordinator Kim Helton was Howard Schnellenberger’s offensive coordinator at Miami from 1979-83
9. Like Schnellenberger, UAB coach Neil Callaway played for Alabama coach Bear Bryant. Callaway played under Bryant from 1974-77.
10. UAB prefers to be called “UAB” not Alabama-Birmingham or any derivative.
