1. Michigan State is coming off an easy 38-14 victory vs. Western Michigan on Saturday in its season opener.
2. The Spartans had two running backs rush for more than 100 yards, including freshman LeVeon Bell, who ran for 114 yards, the most yards on the ground for an MSU running back making his debut.
3. Senior fullback Josh Rouse left the game with a neck injury and is out for the season and the Spartans are still looking for his replacement.
4. FAU and Michigan State have met once before, with the Spartans winning 17-0 in 2008.
5. Javon Ringer, now with the Tennessee Titans, had 282 yards rushing in that game. Linebacker Greg Jones, now a senior for the Spartans led the defensive effort, tying for the team lead with 6 tackles in a game played in a steady downpour.
6. This game is being played in Detroit and is technically an FAU “home” game.
7. Michigan State hasn’t played a game in downtown Detroit since defeating Wayne State 32-0 on Oct. 27 1944 in a game played at the University of Detroit Stadium
8. While Michigan State hasn’t been to Detroit in decades, FAU has played at Ford Field before, defeating Central Michigan 24-21 in the 2008 Motor City Bowl.
9. Schnellenberger has coached in neutral sites before, but both times in Japan. In 1979 his Miami team lost to Notre Dame 40-15 in Tokyo and in 1989, he coached Louisville when it lost 24-13 to Syracuse, also iin Tokyo
10. FAU has only played one team from a BCS Conference while sporting a 1-0 record. In 2007, the Owls lost to Oklahoma State 42-6 a week after defeating Middle Tennessee in the opener.
