BOCA RATON - Wouldn't it have been a great story if FAU wide receiver Duron Carter, who transferred from Alabama, was able to take the field for the first time in 2012 this Saturday against the Crimson Tide?
Carter won't be playing this season after his request for a hardship waiver from the NCAA to not sit out this season was denied by the NCAA, Owls coach Carl Pelini said Tuesday.
The word came down from the NCAA last week and ends any speculation surrounding Carter for 2012. Carter will practice this season and will be eligible to play next season as a senior.
Carter didn't play for Alabama last season but practiced with the team and had been practicing with the Owls after enrolling at FAU just after training camp began. Carter played as a true freshman at Ohio State before heading to a junior college.
There was some hope that Carter would be allowed to play this season, where he would be a big help to a young receiving corps, but FAU will have to wait until next season for Carter to take the field.
