Familiar foe

FAU wasn’t happy when ULM quarterback Trey Revell de-committed before Signing Day in 2006.

BOCA RATON - The Florida Atlantic coaching staff was quite familiar with ULM quarterback Trey Revell long before they started scouting the Warhawks for this Saturday’s game.

Revell, a redshirt junior who is in his first season starting at quarterback for ULM, at one time was going to be an Owl.

Revell committed to FAU before signing day in 2006 when he took a visit to Boca Raton as a senior at Florida State University High School. A few weeks later, Revell changed his mind and decided to go to ULM.

“It was just one of those things that happens in recruiting,” Revell said. “I just changed my mind because Monroe is more like where I’m from in North Florida. Boca was a little bit out of the norm for me.”

FAU coach Howard Schnellenberger remembers when Revell was offered a scholarship by the Owls.

“I remember him very well,” Schnellenberger said. “He was a very good high school player.”

Revel said he enjoyed talking with Schnellenberger.

“I had a chance to sit down with coach Schnellenberger and that was a great time for me,” Revell said. “I was kind of overwhelmed and I was looking forward to him coaching me.”

Revell, now a redshirt junior, was recruited by then FAU offensive coordinator and quarterback coach Gary Nord, who wasn’t happy when Revell told him he intended to sign with the Warhawks.

“He was kind of pissed off,” Revell said. “He let me have it and let my head coach have it, but it’s kind of how recruiting goes.”

PracticeBrowser: A look at Wednesday’s practice

Making plays: DE Kevin Cyrille had a good practice with a fumble recovery and plenty of sacks. Cyrille has been pretty quiet this season, but look for that to change with SBC play coming up Saturday.

Stepping up: Safety Marcus Bartels spent most of the day practicing with the starters, ahead of Tony Rodriguez who earned praise at Nebraska but may have taken a step back at South Carolina.

Instant message: “I was looking at the film last night and I went through that agony again. I saw our defense and that score kept getting higher and higher. I said ‘I know we didn’t lose this damn thing.”
