BOCA RATON – Florida Atlantic will be without four players, including two starters on defense, for this Saturday’s game at USF, Owls coach Howard Schnellenberger said Wednesday.
Senior cornerback Tavious Polo and senior defensive end Daniel Joseph, along with redshirt freshman defensive back Demetrius Williamson and strong safety David Terrell will miss one game after being suspended by Schnellenberger for conduct detrimental to the team.
“I have decided they won’t play in this game,” FAU coach Howard Schnellenberger said.
The players were involved in the promotion of an off-campus party that took place after the Owls’ 21-17 loss to North Texas on Saturday.
A picture of each player was on the flyer raising questions about their endorsement in the party, which charged admission.
Flyers to the party were distributed at Lockhart Stadium and left on many of the cars in the parking lot.
Schnellenberger confirmed to FAUOwlAccess.com, the involvement in the promotion of the party led to the suspensions.
True freshman Cory Henry practiced in place of Joseph and redshirt freshman Keith Reaser practiced in Polo’s spot. Both Henry and Reaser have seen action this season. Reaser started against UAB when the Owls began the game in their nickel package, but Henry will be making his first career start.
Wet and wild: The Owls moved Wednesday’s practice to the Track and Field Complex to combat the effects of Tropical Storm Nicole.
FAU will conclude its practices for the week on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
Practice report: What we saw at Wednesday's practice
Making plays: For a practice held entirely in the rain, WR Avery Holley made some nice catches. The Owls’ offense would stand to be more potent if the receiver opposite Lester Jean drew more attention.
Stepping up: SS Tony Rodriguez saw plenty of action late in the workout. We wrote about him a few days ago after his standout performance in the Toilet Bowl and apparently that’s carried over to the midweek practices.
