1. The Red Wolves lost to Louisiana-Lafayette 21-18 on Saturday to fall to 2-6 and 1-3 in the Sun Belt Conference. Arkansas State was picked second in the Sun Belt Conference pre-season poll.
2. In that game Arkansas State senior quarterback Corey Leonard, the Sun Belt Conference pre-season offensive player of the year, was benched in favor of redshirt freshman
Ryan Aplin, who is from Fleming Island High School in Jacksonville.
3. On Monday, Arkansas State coach Steve Roberts would not say if Aplin or Leonrad would start Saturday vs. FAU.
4. The Owls and Red Wolves played in the only NCAA Division I-A football game in the overtime era to end 0-0 in regulation. Arkansas State won 3-0 in overtime.
5. The Red Wolves are the top team in the Sun Belt in total defense (446.4 ypg) and scoring defense (20.0 ppg).
6. ASU has two close losses to teams from BCS conferences lost 24-21 to Iowa and 21-13 to Louisville.
7. The Owls and Arkansas State have a common non-conference opponent. FAU lost to Nebraska 49-3 and a week later the Red Wolves lost to the Cornhuskers 38-9.
8. Notable ASU alumni include former Dolphins quarterback Cleo Lemon and FAU Associate
AD Terry Mohajir, who was a starter on the football team.
9. The Red Wolves were known as the Indians until they changed their nickname in 2008.
10. The first coach of Arkansas State when it moved to I-A was former Alabama coach Ray Perkins, who played for Howard Schnellenberger when Schnellenberger was an assistant coach at Alabama in the mid 1960s.
