1. Western Kentucky was off this weekend, giving the Hilltoppers a full week to prepare for the Owls.

2. The last time Western Kentucky played, Louisiana-Monroe rallied to defeat the Hilltoppers 21-18. WKU fell to 0-10 and  0-6 in the Sun Belt Conference
 
3. Two days after that game, WKU coach David Elson was fired
 
4. On Monday Western Kentucky hired Willie Taggart to replace Elson. Taggart played football at WKU, was an assistant there for 10 years. The last three seasons he was an assistant coach at Stanford.
 
5. WKU is in first year as a member of the Football Bowl Subdivision.
 
6. The Hitoppers won the 2002 I-AA National Championship
 
7. Led by running back Bobby Rainey’s 72.5 rushing yards per game, the Hiltoppers rush for 177 yards per game. Rainey leads the Sun Belt with 166.2 all-pupose yards per game.
 
8. WKU is 0-1 vs. FAU and 0-6 vs. Schnellenberger
 
9. Alums of Western Kentucky include former Browns coach Romeo Crennel, former Cardinals and Raiders coach Joe Bugel - now the offensive coordinator for the Redskins - and former XFL player Rod “He Hate Me” Smart.
 
10. WKU has on the most famous mascots in all of college sports – Big Red.
