Florida Atlantic junior Friederike Feil finished sixth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a school-record time of 10:25.06 Saturday at the NCAA Track and Field Regionals in Greensboro, N.C.
The top five finishers in the race automatically qualify for the NCAA Track and Field Championships, but Feil still may earn one of six at-large berths to the NCAA meet held June 10-13 in Fayetteville, Ark.
Feil's finish earned FAU three points - the first points in school history earned at an NCAA Regional meet.
“(Friederike) ran well, especially considering all the injuries she’s had to deal with this year,” said FAU track and field coach Alex Smolka. “Now we just have to wait to and see if she gets an at-large selection.”
Feil’s time was the best by a runner from the Sun Belt Conference this season.
