Despite running one of the fastest times in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at NCAA Regional meets last weekend of all the runners eligible for at-large bid to the NCAA Track and Field Championships, Florida Atlantic’s Friederike Feil did not receive one of six at-large bids to the NCAAs on Tuesday.

Feil posted a school-record 10:25.06 in the NCAA East Regional meet Saturday in Greensboro, N.C. The top 5 finishers in the race earned automatic bids to the NCAA meet, but Feil finished sixth, less than three seconds behind fifth-place finisher Betsy Graney of William and Mary, who finished  in 10:22.86.

Feil’s time was the third fastest of any runner who didn’t automatically qualify at the four Regional meets last weekend.

Feil would have been the first athlete to compete in the NCAA Track and Field Championships
