DAVIDSON, N.C. - Davidson All-American guard Stephen Curry was too much for Florida Atlantic as the Wildcats defeated the Owls 76-60 in a NIT Season Tip-off consolation round game on Monday.
Curry had 39 points for the No. 24 Wildcats on 13-of-21 shooting, including 5-of-9 from 3-point range.
FAU (3-2) cut the margin to 44-39 on a hook shot by freshman guard Shavar Richardson with 16:19 remaining in the game, but Davidson (4-1) went on a 15-1 run and pulled away down the stretch.
The Owls were led by Xavier Perkins' 24 points.
Of note: Davidson has won 20 consecutive home games
Walk-on Chris Coleman, Carlos Monroe, Sanchez Hughley and Justin Davis did not make the trip.
Game rewind
- Slam dunk: Xavier Perkins was 12-of-14 from the free-throw line
- Off the rim: Chris Watson was 0-2 from the field and didn't score for the first time in his career.
- From the box score: FAU was just 6-of-21 (28.6 percent) from the field in the second half.
- Up next: The Owls face James Madison at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
Final shot: FAU couldn't stop Stephen Curry, but very few teams can and the Owls won't face too many more players like him - or teams like Davidson - this season.
