FAU Daily Briefing

After a disappointing 9-3 loss to Louisiana-Lafayette on Friday, FAU must regroup for today’s game vs. the Ragin’ Cajuns.
The good news for Owl fans is that Mike Gipson will be on the hill and FAU has plenty of experience of bouncing back after a Friday loss. I think FAU will have getting beat on Friday and winning on Saturday down to a science.
The unfortunate thing is that apparently is part of the plan. FAU scored three runs off ULL ace Zach Osborne in the series opener. The Ragin’ Cajuns aren’t known for the hitting and I’ll go out on a limb that the chances were pretty good Gipson could have held them to fewer than three on Friday.
I don’t mind seeing Gipson skipped over on Friday, but until FAU can produce a starter who can be competitive against the opponent’s best pitcher, the Owls should pitch their ace against the other team’s ace and let their No. 2 (whoever that is) go on Saturday.
Throwing Gipson on Saturday looks like the Owls are taking chances, but in a way it’s being too conservative. FAU looks like it is willing to sacrifice a victory on Friday to get one on Saturday. I predict that with the current order Sun Belt Conference sweeps, taking 2-of-3 vs. Sun Belt teams will happen, but sweeps will be few and far between.

We also were monitoring the baseball team’s
9-3 loss at Louisiana-Lafayette. We’ll be keeping tabs on the game today as well. And don’t forget today’s game will be televised at 4 p.m. on CSS (that’s Channel 32 on Comcast here in Palm Beach County. If you go to a sports bar today to watch the Elite Eight, tell the friendly barkeep to tune one of the TVs to the Owls.
