The more I talk to FAU coach Mike Jarvis, the more likely it appears that Sanchez Hughley will not play for the Owls next season.
 

I asked Jarvis about the chances of Hughley not returning next season.

“I’d say it’s a pretty good possibility in light of the injuries he’s had, with his health, and he has a lot of options in his professional life,” Jarvis said.

Hughley started 28 of the Owls 30 games this season after sitting out last year following surgery for a blood clot. His 9.9 points per game was fourth on the Owls, and he is one of nine national finalists for the V Foundation Comeback Award.

Though only 6-foot-4, Hughley played the role of power forward for the Owls. He took a beating on defense and dealt with various nagging injuries much of the season.

Hughley is slated to graduate in the spring, but still has a year of NCAA eligibility remaining.

In a postgame press conference near the end of the season, Jarvis said emphatically that Hughley would return. Nearly every public statement since then, however, has put Hughley’s return in further doubt.

As part of last Thursday’s Owl Talk podcast Hughley told FAUOwlAccess.com’s Brian Rowitz that he would like to return next season but that he wasn’t sure it would happen.

 

Now it seems the chances are slim we'll see Hughley play for the Owls again.
