Friday's FAU Daily Briefing: Owls earn important rest

While South Alabama and FIU are duking it under the hot Murfreesboro sun, the Owls will be kicking back and relaxing with the AC cranked.
They earned the extra rest by defeating South Alabama on Thursday.
And it’s not just the extra time in the shade the Owls will appreciate. The Jags and the Golden Panthers will be playing an extra game and need a few pitchers just to get to a later game in the afternoon.
There is also another advantage to playing in the late game.
There will be a few hours between the USA-FIU game and the FAU game against the winner. FAU coach John McCormack said he would be worried about facing the winner of that game immediately after it was played, but since there are a few hours between the games, it’s enough time for the adrenaline of winning the elimination game to wear off and fatigue to set in.
There are many advantages to the position FAU is in right now – it’s well-deserved and is looking pretty good for the Owls to make it to the championship game.
You can bet that FAU would rather race the Jags again than the Golden Panthers. The Owls would rather not have to go against their bitter rival, especially with freshman pitcher R.J. Alvarez throwing for FAU. You may remember that Alvarez and the Golden Panthers had more than a few words last week.
The Owls would rather Alvarez be throwing against a team he doesn’t have a history against.
