Sunday's FAU Daily Briefing: Owls should pull for FIU to win SBC Tournament

We’re about to make our return trip from Murfreesboro, but first there is the unscheduled matter this Sunday morning of deciding the Sun Belt Conference Tournament championship.
It’s Troy vs. FIU, in a battle that proves what this tournament is all about – an utter and unequivocable crapshoot. The winner of the trophy can say with pride: Our fifth pitcher and others on two days rest and lightly-used bullpen staff is not as bad as anyone else’s for these five days in May.
It’s going to be painful for many to see FIU playing for the championship, but here’s a reason Owl fans should pull for the Golden Panthers.
Should FIU win the automatic bid to the Regionals, the NCAA baseball committee could look favorably on keeping the Golden Panthers in their home county and sending FIU to the Coral Gables Regional, which would mean FAU would be sent elsewhere – a huge benefit to the Owls.
If the committee has a sense of humor, that’s exactly what they should do since it’s well known that UM coach Jim Morris and FIU coach Turtle Thomas don’t like each other and FIU and UM don’t face each other in the regular season anymore due to the bad blood.
