Thursday's FAU Daily Briefing: Owls need big game from Gipson

Regardless of the outcome of FAU’s game vs. Western Kentucky on Wednesday, the Owls were going to need a solid outing out of starting pitcher Mike Gipson today.
After the Owls needed 13 innings to defeat the Hilltoppers 9-8, FAU is going to need even more out of Gipson vs. South Alabama.
FAU’s bullpen is stretched thin after Ryan Garton threw six solid innings. In order FAU used Kevin Alexander for 1.1 innings, Ryan Bernal for 0.2, Andy Mee for 3 and Hugh Adams for 2.
That leaves very little in terms of relief for today’s game vs. the Jaguars.
After the euphoria of the dramatic rally vs. Western Kentucky wore off FAU coach John McCormack addressed the Owls pitching situation.
“We’re going to need someone to step up,” McCormack said. "I said all along that to win something like this you need a very good start or really good relief appearance. That will hold even more true…I don’t think we’ll have to worry about that, hopefully, until Friday.”
If FAU gets a strong seven or eight - or maybe even nine - from Gipson, the Owls will be in good shape. Anything less and FAU could be in trouble.
