Wittels can have his streak, FAU has the title

After three hectic nights and days at FAU Stadium, most of the fans who were out there for a tense FIU-FAU series got what they wanted – to see the Owls celebrate winning the Sun Belt Conference title.
Of course, I just saw a snippet of what happened this weekend on ESPN, but it wasn’t what I’ll remember from this series.
I’ll be the first to say hats off to Garrett Wittels, the FIU player who extended his consecutive-games hitting streak to 48 games and now trails just Oklahoma State’s Robin Ventura, who hit in 58 games in 1987.
It’s a great individual accomplishment and, yes, that’s our FAUOwlAccess.com video of Wittels
on ESPN, so technically we helped fuel the hype.
But FAU’s accomplishment of winning the Sun Belt Conference championship is also something to be pretty proud of, it just won’t be talked about on ESPN.
Wittels can have the attention, FAU will be more than happy to celebrate their championship in anonymity.
