Corozza to take over as special teams coach

FAU tight ends coach Joe Corozza is about to get a little busier. Corozza will take over as FAU’s special teams coach beginning this fall.
Kurt Van Valkenburgh split time last season as the Owls’ assistant head coach, linebackers coach and special teams coach. After being promoted to defensive coordinator in the spring, Van Valkenburgh said he would look for someone to take over special teams duties.
“It was just impossible to handle all of those things,” Van Valkenburgh said. “I had to move out of that area. Joe did a great job of helping out last year with it. With his coaching position and things right now he’ll be able to dedicate the amount of time that you need to get that done.”
Corozza is taking over a unit that ranked 26th in the nation in punt return defense (6.1 yards per punt), 88th in net punt yardage (37.87), 109th in punt return average (4.6), 110th in kickoff return average (18.87) and 72nd in kickoff return defense (22.08).
He's been with FAU since 2001, when he served as an intern, Corozza became the tight ends coach in 2006.
