Friday's Daily Briefing: Baseball coaches will teach your kids
By Chuck King
We’ve written quite a few blogs about the various football camps held this summer and even one about a basketball camp, but the campiest camp campers this summer might have been the baseball coaches.
Nearly every week this summer they’ve brought in youngsters from around the area to improve their baseball skills. This week is a bit different, though. This is the high school week, where the baseball coaches get a chance to analyze players who could soon become Owls – though most of the players in this week’s camp are likely a couple years away.
FAU coaches will be back working with the younger kids over the next two weeks – and they will have help from same names that are familiar to Owl fans. L.J. Biernbaum, Mike McKenna and Michael Obradovich, all of whom played professionally after leaving FAU, have joined 2009 grad David Wilson as instructors throughout the summer.
Current FAU players Eddie Cassidy and Sean Bukovich are also helping out. That’s Cassidy moving a screen into place on Thursday.
Those interested in having their 5-to-13-year-olds spend a week learning from accomplished baseball players and Sun Belt champion coaches can contact Brad Frick at the baseball office. The week-long camps run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and cost $185 for players who are members of the Boca Raton Youth Leagues, $225 for those who aren’t.
