Friday's FAU Daily Briefing: Pitcher Alvarez to be televised at Fenway All-Star game.

Fenway Park is one of the most historic sports venues in America. Next week it will have a bit of an FAU feel to it.
Florida Atlantic pitcher R.J. Alvarez has been chosen to the Cape Cod Summer League All-Star game, which will be played at Fenway on Wenesday and televised on CBS College Sports.
Alvarez (right) is 2-2 in 11 relief appearances totaling, 18 innings this summer. Impressively, he’s allowed only two earned runs in the summer season – both of them coming Wednesday. Troy pitcher Tayler Ray was the only other Sun Belt player selected to the game.
Widely considered the top collegiate baseball summer destination, the Cape Cod League is growing accustomed to strong FAU performances. Last year, Mike Gipson put together a strong summer on the Cape. Gipson, of course, went on to be the ace of the Owls’ staff in 2010 before getting drafted by the New York Yankees (More on him later today in our Former Owl Friday segment)
Alvarez, who went 3-1 with a 5.10 ERA this past season as a freshman and finished the year as the Sunday starter, is the only Owl in the Cape Cod League. Mike Albaladejo was supposed to be with Alvarez up there, but the catcher ended up playing in the Florida Collegiate Summer League instead.
Wondering how some of the other Owls are doing this summer? Andy Mee continues to be multi-functional. He’s hitting .359 with 26 RBIs and 25 runs scored in 33 games for the Mat-Su Miners. On the mound he’s 3-0 with a 2.00 ERA.
Dan Scheffler is among the Valley League leaders with six homers, but he’s hitting only .190. His teammate, both with the Winchester Royals and FAU, has four homers while hitting .299.
