Schnellenberger says Owls need fast start as Sun Belt Media Days kicks off

Day One of the Sun Belt Conference Media Days is in the books and to kick-off the two-day media session with coaches and the reporters who cover the league, the conference turned to Owls coach Howard Schnellenberger.
Schnellenberger didn’t seem to mind his team was picked fifth, even though the Owls were in a tie for third place last season.
If the Owls are to contend for the Sun Belt Conference title, they need to avoid the slow start that plagued them in 2008 and 09.
“We have to come out of the chute fast if we are going to be able to compete in the conference,” Schnellenberger said.
That’s true – and possible.
FAU doesn't face the two teams picked to win the Sun Belt Conference – Middle Tennessee and Troy – until the final two games of the season.
The Blue Raiders were picked to win the championship narrowly over the Trojans in the poll by the Sun Belt’s coaches.
Schnellenberger concurred with the assemement that the Trojans and Blue Raiders are the two best teams in the Sun Belt.
“They are rightfully the favorites going into this year and they have a wonderful programs at both places,” Schnellenberger said. “All the rest of us are trying to catch up and trying to rise to the occasion but we better have a game plan for them.”
