WKU's Big Red guest of honor at FAU's bonfire

One can assume that there will be some Western Kentucky fans heading to Boca Raton to cheer on their Hilltoppers.

I just hope the WKU fans don’t get here until Friday, because they probably won’t like what they see tonight.

FAU’s annual bonfire is tonight and that means something is getting burned. Even though Western Kentucky has one of the best mascots in college sports, Big Red (often mistakenly called “Big Red Blob” or “The Blob” etc.) that does not mean he, she or it (does anyone know?) is exempt from from being burned in effigy.

WKU fans may want to turn away, because FAU students have built an approximate replica of Big Red, the guest of honor for the festivities. It may not be the spitting image of Big Red, but I think WKU fans will get the picture - he is being reduced to ashes in front of hubdreds of cheeing FAU fans.

Oh, it won't be that bad. I had to endure the mascot of my alma mater (UAB) being burned last season, I just hope my wife - a pround Western Kentucky grad - doesn't know what's going to happen to her beloved Big Red. Who knows? Someone may have to throw one of those towels on the fire as well.

Here's some videos of past bonfires to see what poor Big Red is in for Thursday.
