WKU's Big Red guest of honor at FAU's bonfire

One can assume that there will be some Western Kentucky fans heading to Boca Raton to cheer on their Hilltoppers.

I just hope the WKU fans don’t get here until Friday, because they probably won’t like what they see tonight.

FAU’s annual bonfire is tonight and that means something is getting burned. Even though Western Kentucky has one of the best mascots in college sports, Big Red (often mistakenly called “Big Red Blob” or “The Blob” etc.) that does not mean he, she or it (does anyone know?) is exempt from from being burned in effigy.

WKU fans may want to turn away, because FAU students have built an approximate replica of Big Red, the guest of honor for the festivities. It may not be the spitting image of Big Red, but I think WKU fans will get the picture - he is being reduced to ashes in front of hubdreds of cheeing FAU fans.

Oh, it won't be that bad. I had to endure the mascot of my alma mater (UAB) being burned last season, I just hope my wife - a pround Western Kentucky grad - doesn't know what's going to happen to her beloved Big Red. Who knows? Someone may have to throw one of those towels on the fire as well.

Here's some videos of past bonfires to see what poor Big Red is in for Thursday.

Wave that broom Mike. Thanks for your help and I can hear you chuckling down here. I would say you missed an exciting one , but I know you didn't.

Gotta hand it to FAU - the Owls are playing some interesting football. You never really know what will happen next. (Except for that UTSA kickoff...

I can see him waving his broom after this win!
