A way to celebrate New Year's Day again

New Year's Day falls on Jan. 2 this year, so to speak, so it's time to fire up the grill and take in a full day of college football and hoping that any high school players out there will do the right thing and hold off on their commitments until tomorrow.

Today's all about the games.

Owl fans probably will have the most interest in the Outback Bowl featuring Michigan State, a team FAU is very familiar with, and Georgia, one of next year's opponents.

BCS spokesperson Bill Hancock is fond of saying every game counts and in the Owl Access Bowl Contest that's certainly true as TeamBeer is in front for the race to get a VIP Package for four to the Battle of Florida.

Today is certainly a great day to be a college football fan, but don't forget about how great a playoff system would be, If you don't believe me, just pick up the updated 2011 version of Death to the BCS by Dan Wetzel, Josh Peter and Jeff Passan. The book forcefully lays out a plan for a playoff that would work and be fair. And Chapter 4 features none other than FAU AD Craig Angelos and the financial arrangements for the Owls going to the 2008 Motor City Bowl. Very interesting reading!
