Bobby Bowden says Terry Bowden was interested in FAU job

Former Florida State coach Bobby Bowden, promoting the upcoming Battle of Florida, had some interesting things to say about his son, Terry Bowden, who is the new coach at Akron, during an interview with Evan Cohen on ESPN760 on Friday afternoon.

Terry Bowden was thought by many to be one of the first candidates FAU Athletic Director Craig Angelos would pursue to replace Owls coach Howard Schnellenberger.

However, Bobby Bowden told Cohen that Terry Bowden, who was coach at Division II North Alabama, was interested in the FAU job but was never contacted by Angelos.

“I think he was interested in the FAU job, but I don’t think he went after it,” Bobby Bowden told Cohen. “I think he was hoping and wishing they would come after him.”

FAU may not have pursued Terry Bowden, but Akron sure did.

The Zips snatched up Terry Bowden, a former National Coach of the Year winner, for a reported $300,000 in base salary plus incentives a few weeks after FAU named Carl Pelini as its next football coach with a base salary of $450,000.
