Dugan coaches Owls to victory over FIU just hours after mother passes away
By Marcus Nelson
We at Owl Access want to extend our condolences to FAU women’s basketball coach Chancellor Dugan, whose mother, Jane Dugan, passed away on Saturday morning.
A few hours later, Chancellor Dugan was on the bench coaching the Owls to a victory over FIU. I know now but didn't know then, that it must be one of the most special victories in her career.
Chancellor Dugan (pictured) did not tell her team about her mother’s death until after the game in a longer than usual post-game talk.
Jane Dugan, who was 84, was a fixture at The Burrow for every home game for the past few years watching stoically over her daughter’s team. Without question, she was the biggest fan of the FAU women’s basketball team.
It must have been quite difficult for Chancellor Dugan to coach vs. the Golden Panthers, but she hid her grief well and pulled out what must have been a satisfying victory in what is turning out to be a fine season for the Owls.
The victory brought a smile to Chancellor Dugan's face if only for a few minutes on what had to be a difficult day.
Jane Dugan was honored with a moment of silence before the start of the men’s basketball team’s game vs. FIU.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Chancellor Dugan, her family and the women’s basketball team.
