FAU spring football game may be played at night

A couple of weeks ago we told FAU fans that the spring game would be held April 14 in the stadium.

On Monday FAU coach Carl Pelini provided some more interesting news about the game.

For starters, how about playing the game under the lights? Pelini said he is interested in making the spring game a night affair.

Even more interesting – and for that matter, more fun – will be how the teams will be divided. Pelini said he intends to choose four captains, two for each team, and let them draft their teammates, kind of like a huge school-yard pick up game.

The four players will make the selections in a conference room with Pelini, jotting them down on a white board to keep them balanced.

The team with the first pick will select one player, then each team would get two picks from there on out.

The players will also have even greater incentive to win.

“We'll have steaks for the winners and hot dogs for the losers,” Pelini said.

It's not exactly like having the winner determine home field advantage for the World Series.

It's better.
