Would FAU be better off in Sun Belt than moving to Conference USA?
By Marcus Nelson
What’s news on Friday…
FAU said good-riddance to Denver on Thursday night with a 72-71 victory at The Burrow in the Pioneers’ last game at The Burrow as a member of the Sun Belt Conference.
The Pioneers are leaving for the WAC, which is a good move for them – and a good move for the rest of the Sun Belt Conference. Denver was too far way from the other schools, which made for some brutal travel schedules.
I’ll use that as a segue into some more conference realignment talk which was brought up again with Memphis leaving Conference USA for the Big East.
So what happens with Conference USA? Probably the possible merger between C-USA and the Mountain West.
If that goes down, one has to wonder if FAU isn’t just better off in the Sun Belt.
However, it would be nice if FAU has the option of choosing between the two and explores all their options instead of just settling for the Sun Belt Conference without close examination of where is the best fit for the Owls really is.
Here’s an interesting piece that says Conference USA would be better off merging with the Sun Belt than the Mountain West and it’s hard to disagree.
