Nebraska assistant Lewis-Jay to be next FAU women's basketball coach

The search for Florida Atlantic's next women's basketball coach seems to have concluded.

Sources tell OwlAccess.com that Nebraska assistant Kellie Lewis-Jay has agreed to become the next women's basketball coach at FAU.

An assistant at Nebraska since 2007, Lewis-Jay also served as the Cornhuskers' recruiting coordinator. Nebraska is coming off a 24-9 season in which they finished sixth in the Big 10 (10-6) and fell to Kansas in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

In 2010 Nebraska went undefeated in Big 12 conference play en route to a 32-2 record and an appearance in the Sweet 16.

Lewis-Jay was also an assistant coach at Washington prior to her stint at Nebraska.

A California native, Lewis Jay played college basketball at Boise St.

Lewis-Jay replaces Chancellor Dugan, who declined to accept a one-year contract extension after leading the Owls to a 17-13 record and a berth in the Women's NIT.

Lewis-Jay's contract still has to be ratified by FAU's Board of Trustees. If ratified, she would become FAU's second coaching hire from Nebraska in the past six months. In December FAU hired former Cornhuskers defensive coordinator Carl Pelini to succeed Howard Schnellenberger as football coach.
